Utah manufacturing
Utah: you may know it from the Olympic games of 2002, snow skiing and winter sports or maybe for its renowned training ground for speed skating. Utah has red rock canyons and National Parks famous for mountain biking, hiking and rock climbing. It is also the religious hub for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. But Utah, with nationally ranked universities a short distance from each other in both Salt Lake City and Provo, is a major center for current research and development.
The University of Utah, famous for advances in artificial heart research in the 1980s, is known not only for its medical facilities and research but also its chemistry and law programs. Brigham Young University to the South, in Provo, Utah, is home to one of the top ranked accounting schools in the country. With a young and highly educated work force easily accessible, Utah is home to major manufacturing companies ranging from surgical and medical instrumentation, sporting and athletic equipment, highway and bridge construction, frozen food production and communication equipment.
Utah is also home to Design-Tek Tool and Plastics Inc. We do injection molding and design to produce the parts, pieces and containers needed for the manufacturing centers in Utah and throughout the United States.
What is Injection Molding?
Injection molding is the process in which heated plastic or polymers are forced into the recesses and cavities of a mold using high pressures. Using this technology, parts, pieces and containers for marketing and manufacturing are produced that are durable, free of seams and bubbles, and leak proof. The containers and pieces are also produced in high volume at a very reasonable cost.
Polymers are initially formed into a parison, or small cylinder of plastic which is inserted into the center of a mold. High pressurized air is then forced into the center of the parison and the plastic is forced throughout all areas of the mold. The mold is then cooled and the formed plastic piece is ejected.
Due to the wide range of properties of polymers, injection molding can be done with many different colors, textures and shapes necessary for a specific product. Manufacturers can highly specialize the blow manufactured container or piece necessary to fit the needs of their final design and specifications.
Importance of mold design in injection molding?
One of the most important steps in the injection molding process is creation of the mold. Molds can be made from many different materials to facilitate the design and purpose of the mold. Some molds may need to withstand millions of uses for long periods of time or may be used for only a few short trials until your prototype is finalized. Final product shape and material are also taken into consideration when creating the mold. Will the final product have the wall thickness necessary for consumer satisfaction and use? The mold must be created with various aspects in mind from use in the injection molding process to outcome of the final product and marketing appearance.
At Design-Tek Tool and Plastics Inc., our trained engineers specialize in meeting the needs of our customers. We want you to have the best final product possible. Our engineers use Solid Works 3D, a CAD design program designed at MIT and used by over 2 million engineers worldwide. We design and modify your specific mold in-house at our state of the art plastics facility in Ogden, Utah.
Our engineers optimize your parts and molds not just to get the part, but to get them to run smoothly on our injection molding machines for fast and efficient production.
At Design-Tek Tool and Plastics Inc., our professional engineers and designers can help you with your plastic manufacturing needs. It takes a lot of know how to do injection blow molding well and to do injection blow molding the right way.
